BOOK BINDING - with Jackie Hichens

Have you always wondered how to make your own sketchbooks/ journals and create a hand stitched, hand bound book of your own? Then this is the workshop for you. Jackie is a wildlife artist and bookmaker living and working in Nethy Bridge in the Cairngorms National Park. She has been teaching book making classes alongside art workshops for a long time now. You will start this workshop by making a single stitched soft bound book in which you can write your own practice notes throughout the day . Next, you will make a folded book from watercolour paper with which you will be able to create your own special small book to fill with poetry, words or small drawings to make it a unique keepsake or gift. Finally, you come to the big make of the day; a handstitched, hardback book. This can be made from a single type of paper e.g. watercolour or cartridge, or a combination of the two. You will learn how to tear paper, mark and stitch the signatures together to produce text block. You will apply headbands and then the covers. You will learn at your own pace in a friendly atmosphere. All materials are included but if you have a particular paper or material you would like to cover your book with, please bring it along as it may be possible to use it. Tea & coffee are provided but please bring something with you for lunch.
